WESTLAND SEA KING XZ585 RAF HENDON 2024 - WALKAROUND GALLERY
The Westland WS-61 Sea King is a British licence-built version of the American Sikorsky S-61 helicopter of the same name. The aircraft differs considerably from the American version, with Rolls-Royce Gnome engines, British-made anti-submarine warfare systems and a fully computerised flight control system. The Sea King was primarily designed for performing anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. The example shown here is perhaps one of the most visible of of the variants, the RAF Air Sea Rescue machines. I recall seeing many images and videos over the years of these bright yellow machines plucking stranded and injured people from ships, yachts and mountain tops.
